Mattel has a new Barbie doll based on actress Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. She will be at Comic-Con, sadly not for sale though.
But once comes out, I will have it!

Check Out Mattel's Special Edition Ava DuVernay Barbie Doll
How cool is this?
Selma director Ava DuVernay was just elected as one of six “Sheroes” by Mattel. But what does that mean? Well, she gets a Barbie doll version of herself!
I love it.

She-Ra gets a Darker Upgrade
A new She-Ra story is truly changing everything most of us knew about her. DC and Mattel have created a one-shot story that explains the dark past of Force Captain Adora.
In the cartoon, Adora (the twin of Prince Adam, who's He-Man) was kidnapped by Hordak and raised to be his best solider. She eventually broke free from his evil hold and became She-Ra. But this new story shows us the dark times before she was the Princess of Power.
For example, Adora was a killer, an assassin for the Horde.
If you are an old Masters of the Universe fan, I strongly urge you to check out the comic

OH MY GODS!! Barbie® Doll Adores….Divinely Janet
Mattel made a Janet Jackson doll... For Charity.
Pop superstar Janet Jackson wants you to buy her “Miz Jackson, If Ya Nasty” Barbie Doll, but this isn’t your standard Barbie, it’s a one of a kind Jackson replica that will be auctioned off for a good cause.
According to Mattel Designer and Jackson Doll creator Jackeline Gonzalez:I want this! But so those a bunch of others. The doll is up to $850 dollars... I'll think about it.
“Inspired by the ultra-glam black gown she wore during her 2010 American Idol performance, I knew we had to recreate that look for her one of a kind doll,” adding, “Look closely dolls, Janet’s sassy, short hairstyle, unique face and body sculpt and face painting all meticulously duplicate the legendary singer’s features.”Janet hopes to raise a considerable amount of money for Project Angel Food, a food program that delivers meals to people with HIV/AIDS, Cancer and other life threatening illnesses in the Los Angeles area.
CharityBuzz.com is handling the auction and the doll will come with a Certificate of Authenticity and a unique display case so the winner can show off their over priced doll.

Taylor Lautner "Jacob" Doll

You can "own" him now.
The doll features Jacob's strong jawline as well as his sculpted six pack abs along with well worn denim cutoff shorts, ready for action as he prepares to turn from teenage boy to werewolf. The doll is set to hit stores in February 2010 to coincide with the release of the DVD version of the latest Twilight movie.I know folks are drooling over him, but I don't see it yet.
Not because he is 12, but I don't see it. Maybe when he's 30, I'll really see it.
And they should darken him a little bit, since Jacob is Native American.

Who asked for This?: Sexed Up Rainbow Brite

Suffering Sappho!
Hallmark, of all companies, thought it was time to "update" Rainbow Brite.
Lady Gaga's lost sister is now tall, thin and model like.
What's next She-Ra the hooker? That could be fun, actually.

Mattel introduce New Black Barbies with features and "long hair"

Mattel has released new black barbie dolls that are diverse in skin tones and features.
Barbie designer Stacey McBride-Irby (I'm jealous, BTW) created the "So In Style" line, which has Grace, Kara and Trichelle, with their little sisters Courtney, Janessa and Kianna.
They are cute and I will get my niece one, but some folks are not feeling them.
"Why are we always pushing this standard of long hair on our girls?" asked Gail Parrish, 60, a playwright in Alexandria, Va., and a mother of four grown children. "Why couldn't one of the dolls have a little short afro, or shorter braids or something?"
McBride-Irby said she originally designed all the dolls with long hair. Combing her Barbie's long hair when she was a girl was the "highlight of my play experience," she said. She was advised to create some dolls with curlier hair, so she did.
Black mothers who want their girls to love their natural hair have an uphill battle and these dolls could make it harder," Parks said in an e-mail. Aside from the hair, some black women are concerned about the dolls' thin frames.
Okay, I get that. However, these dolls are creating a new trend and acceptance of our features. The hair thing will always be an issue, but I think Mattel is heading in the right direction.

Are you Ready for this... Barbie the Movie
It was bound to happen, so I'm not surprised.
Universal Pictures has added Barbie to its star stable.
The studio has made a deal with Mattel to build a live action film around its signature toy line. Studios are placing a premium on building films around well-known concepts. Universal brass feels it has landed the queen of globally branded toy figures.
But will folks pay $15 to see her, Skipper, Ken (and his gay lover) and P.J.?
And Christie BETTER be in it, goddammit!

Barbie is a Jealous Hooker!

If you haven't heard, Mattel finally won their legal battle with MGA, the makers of the cute and sassy Bratz dolls. Apparently, the creator thought of the dolls while he was still working for Mattel. Once he left Mattel, he started the Bratz.
Suddenly the Bratz took off, surpassing Barbie and other dolls. When Barbie was reduced to sloppy seconds, Mattel decided to try something new, by creating the My Scene dolls and then some urban Barbie-like dolls with fros and dredlocks, both were failures.
So after they realized they couldn't beat the Bratz, they went for plan B. They found out the creator of Bratz was still under their contract and sued him and MGA. Mattel won and now MGA can't make any Bratz dolls after the holidays. Such a bitchy thing to do, Barbie.

DC Comics + Barbie = Harlot

Mattel loves some drama when it comes to the DC Comics. First it was Joker toys for Batman and now, it's the Black Canary Barbie. While comic queers love it, the Christians hate, hate, hate it. Christian Voice is protesting Mattel’s Black Canary collector doll saying:
“Barbie has always been on the tarty side and this is taking it too far. A children’s doll in sexually suggestive clothing is irresponsible – it’s filth.”
Christian Voice, it's a $40 collector's doll!! It's not for kids, it's for people like me!! Go and build a school or something, please.
However, Dinah does look a little Sunset Blvd circa 1978
