Wonder Woman Prequel is Dead at CW... For Now

This is interesting to say the least.

At the Television Critics Association, CW president Mark Pedowitz announced that the Wonder Woman prequel is dead... For now? Yes, for now.

He said:

"We did not go forward with it.It all depends on the script. We were very careful with Arrow and we're being very careful with Flash. These are iconic characters so we're going to be very careful with Wonder Woman. You only get one shot before you get bit."

But what about the movie version of Diana? Interesting how that wasn't even mentioned.

And I love how Flash is a big deal, but WW isn't really worth the risk. Sometimes, I think WB/DC need a clean house of folks and ideas.

10 Reasons Why I Don't want CW to make a Wonder Woman series

You know... After thinking, crying, screaming and ranting. I think I have come to the conclusion that I don't want CW to do a Wonder Woman series.

I would like a WW series, I just don't want CW near it at all. But why am I all of a sudden against this idea? Well, I have 10 reasons why.

1. Lack of strong female characters. CW isn't known for strong woman roles in their series. They have a hard time maintaining a series with a powerful woman. Nikita is their only example, but that poor show is on the struggle bus. While they're on point with damsel in distress roles, I'm not sure they can give us the Amazing Amazon.
2. Casting. CW loves to cast Soap Opera/Gay Porn/MTV Undressed folks for their shows. In their world, everybody's hot, including the demons and mass murderers. I don't mind the eye candy, however too much of it can water down the true essence of the story.
3. Storytelling. Smallville spent 10 years going nowhere. And while Arrow is decent, it's still dependent on eye candy. They will get the teen and college student viewers, but I'm not confident they will keep an adult interested for the long haul.  
4. Storytelling part 2. WW has a rich history and great mythology. Could the writers at CW convey her heritage well or f*ck it up? Again, SMALLVILLE.
5. Marketing. Real talk, the new Arrow posters are hot, but if you had no idea about the Green Arrow, you'd think these posters were a Sean Cody production. I feel like they wouldn't know how to market Diana and possibly turn her into a sexy warrior vixen.
6. Lovelorn. I feel like CW would make the WW series into an updated Young Romance live action comic. Her back and forth with Steve could become a typical CW love drama and that would kill the Diana we know and love.
7. Costume. In CW's version, she would probably wear a choker and Cover Girl make up.
8. Acting chops. They will have to find a woman who can make us believe in WW's cause and purpose. Not sure they can do that.
9. Writing. Will the series fall into the normal CW trappings? Too many pop cultural references and no substance? Possible.
10. Diversity. They're getting better with this piece, but will they stick to Diana's true look, i.e. not so White looking? And her supporting cast, will they be a diverse bunch or will the melting pot only apply to the villains?

CW has made strong strides in their programming, still I can't help but to see a train wreck coming around the bend. The casting of Flash wasn't flattering and it makes me wonder what starlet would they put in those satin tights... Oh, knowing CW, her costume would actually be satin.

CW's Wonder Woman series is Still In Development!

New WW news!

Apparently the Wonder Woman prequel isn't dead yet. EW has the scoop about the possible pick up.

CW Topper Mark Pedowitz told reporters after the network’s upfront presentation today that the Wonder Woman prequel dubbed Amazon remains in development, even though it didn’t make the cut for fall. “Oh God yes,” Pedowitz replied, when asked whether the project was still alive. “It’s being redeveloped. We don’t want to produce something” that doesn’t do the franchise justice. 

“It’s the trickiest of all the DC characters,” he added.

There is also a new writer involved too.

I want to get excited, but I'am afraid. What do you think?

Is the Wonder Woman pilot already in Danger? UPDATED

Don't know what to make of this, but it seems the script ain't right and CW is holding out for a better story.

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the project isn't completely off the table. The network, sources say, wasn't happy with the script and is awaiting a final version from writer Allan Heinberg (Grey's Anatomy). The CW, which already has picked up eight pilots this season (on par with last year), is still holding a slot open for Amazon, with the project still in contention for fall 2013-14, midseason or beyond.

A midseason spot? Diana deserves more than a midseason spot!

Hera help me! I can't take another failed attempt to get my Diana on the screen.

UPDATE

Deadline reports that the pilot was not picked up for the fall season. The pilot may be on the 2014-2015 docket or an off-cycle thing... sigh

Five Actresses who could be Diana in AMAZON

As most folks know, CW is possibly doing a Wonder Woman series called AMAZON and they're looking for an actress to play Diana.

While we wait to see who they pick, I rounded up some actresses who could possibly pull it off. Now, keep in mind this is CW; so these women are young and kind of known.

Word on the street says Amy Manson is in the running for being Wonder Woman in CW's series AMAZON.

She has been invited back for screenings and seems to lead the pack. What do y'all think?

My Rant: Between the Wonder Woman TV or the Wonder Woman Film... I want the Film

There is a lot of talk about the possible Wonder Woman TV show on the CW. And while it's exciting and popping... I rather have a film.

We need a WW movie! Hands down! She is one of the big DC 3! Superman has had 6 films and Batman has had 8 films. Diana has had none, I'm not counting the Cathy Lee Crosby version, because that was a TV pilot.

WB should do everything in their power to make WW happen. Diana has a rich history and plenty of material to make a fascinating movie. Even if they struggled with some of her story lines, they could still draw from the 70 years of stuff! I mean, look at the possibilities:

• Her issues with her mother
• Coming to the new world
• Rogue amazons
• Cheetah
• Ares
• Steve Trevor or Trevor
•  Aresia - from the JL cartoon
• Circe 
• The tournament

There's enough to put together a great movie. F*ck this noise about an origin story that NEVER existed.

I really don't want a Smallville-lite series. And I don't want some starlet in the role as Diana. In fact, let's not do the series; just do the movie, just do the movie. Find a great director, writer and actress and make this happen! Please WB, look at the draw of The Avengers and the Man of Steel, Wonder Woman can create the same kind of draw and excitement!

Just give the movie a chance! Hell, give Wonder Woman a frakking chance!

CW President talks about the 'Possible' Wonder Woman TV Series

The President of CW, Mark Pedowitz had some interesting words about the possible Wonder Woman series.

IGN reports

Asked about Amazon today at the TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour, CW president Mark Pedowitz said, “First off, we’re waiting to see the script. Second off, we’re busy casting for Diana as we speak. Hopefully the script works the way we want.” He added that Amazon was, “an origination story in the sense that Smallville was an origination story.”

Arrow has turned into The CW’s biggest hit since The Vampire Diaries and I asked Pedowitz if that show’s success helps Amazon’s profile as The CW looks at potential new series – and whether they might be looking at other DC characters. Replied Pedowitz, “Arrow’s success, when you have Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg as your showrunners, that has a lot to do with that success and we hope Allan Heinberg will have the same success with what Amazon will be. But it does help, in terms of that.”

And...

With casting already underway, I asked Pedowitz if it was safe to assume Amazon was going to get a pilot at the least. He replied, “If we get the right script and the right casting, we’ll go right forward to pilot.”

This leaves me a little nervous.Nothing is set and the hunt for the perfect 'Diana' maybe impossible to complete within the timeline for the fall.

David E. Kelley looks back at his Wonder Woman pilot

David E. Kelley reveals some of his views about his failed WW series and the hopes of CW's take on the Amazing Amazon.

He said:

I still believe it's viable for a television series. I think it's ripe to do it. We made mistakes with ours. My only regret is we were never given a chance to correct them. We had a lot that was right about it and a great cast. In time, we could have fixed what we had done wrong, we just didn't get that chance. All my series have been a work in progress to a certain extent where you figure them out by episodes three, four or five. This one actually gelled sooner than any that I have had in the past. We would have gotten there and I wish we were afforded a little more time. I do believe in the potential of the series and I wish them well with it. I think it could be a great success.

Maybe so, but the whole 'I'm Diana 'Tony Stark' Prince take was ridic. We will see how effective CW's take will be.

Wonder Woman's 'Amazon' Test Scenes Leak

More news surface of the Wonder Woman CW series.

Here are scenes from the 'pilot' thanks to the trusty site, Wonder Woman TV

In the first scene — which may or may not be part of the actual pilot, should it even be filmed… Steve Trevor has landed, and his hands and feet are cuffed by a chair as Diana tries to figure out his intentions. She notices he has a weapon, and accuses him of being a terrorist, or even a diversion or harbinger of an invasion of men.

In another scene, Diana and Steve are at a diner, we assume in Man’s World, and are a lot more friendly. There, Diana has her first taste of ice cream, in a very cute sequence.

Interesting.... I'll keep y'all posted on this.

CW moves forward in the Wonder Woman Series... Who in the F**K is Iris?

The CW is moving forward with the Wonder Woman origin story. They have hired a casting director and they are looking for a woman who's 5'8 or taller. But an interesting piece was revealed in this news... A character name Iris... Who in the f**k is Iris?

According to the breakdown I’ve obtained, her name is Iris (not Diana). “She comes from a remote, secluded country and until now has spent most of her life as a soldier and a leader on the battlefield. Because of relentless brutality of her life at home, Iris looks at our world with absolute awe and astonishment. She’s delighted ­and just as often horrified ­ by the aspects of everyday life that we take for granted: skyscrapers, traffic, ice cream. It’s all new and fascinating and sometimes slightly troubling ­to her. Iris is completely unschooled in our world, our culture, our customs. And she’s completely inexperienced at interpersonal relationships. She has no social filter, does not suffer fools, and tends to do and say exactly what’s on her mind at all times. She’s bluntly, refreshingly honest. She can tell when you’re lying to her. And she doesn’t have time or patience for politics or tact because she’s too busy trying to experience everything our world has to offer. There are too many sights to see ­and things to learn ­and people to care for. Hers is a true, noble, and generous heart. And she will fight and die for the people she loves. Again, who is this? Maybe it is code for someone? Maybe it's a new character? Just as long it's not Diana, then we are good.

Will a CW Wonder Woman/Arrow crossover be a Good Thing?

Yesterday, I read this piece about a possible Wonder Woman/Arrow crossover at CW.
Arrow executive producer Greg Berlanti kicked it off by saying both shows could definitely co-exist.

He said:

"Absolutely! If there's room for a thousand reality shows, hopefully there's room for a thousand shows like this. My hope is we're successful enough that we're all on the air together; that'd be great."

Okay... But, my hairs stood up when I saw this part from executive producer Andrew Kreisberg:

"With Wonder Woman, Diana of Themyscira, there are superpowers. I don't foresee crossovers, but one of the great things about superheroes is that they're constantly being reimagined. There's the Adam West and Christopher Nolan versions of Batman, and one doesn't obviate the other. The Lynda Carter version was great, and now the CW is hopefully developing another wonderful version that will be a nice complement to Arrow."

Another wonderful version... I cringed because earlier, they didn't want anyone with superpowers to be in the series.

Will Diana be powerless? And if so, why? She is a mythical being, blessed by the Gods. Should she be powerless to fit the show? I hope not. Diana could make an appearance in the series, but she has to have her powers.

Now, they could go the Cathy Lee Crosby route, but I hope they give some 'Wonder' to Diana.
