When I saw this, I was like... "Really, Pepsi, really?"
This ad was messy and completely tone-deaf. I mean, you basically had this white woman save the day by handing the cops a Pepsi.
Not only that, but the messages all up and through this ad.
- Being pretty and white
- Passing off a wig to a Black woman, basically saying that "She can't help me, but she can hold my wig as "I" save the world.
- White savior
- Only a white woman can save the day
Once this ad was released, it was met the most appropriate backlash. Social media came for Pepsi and their decision to release this ad. And less than a day later, Pepsi pulled the ad.
Pepsi said:
"Pepsi was trying to project a global a message of unity, peace and understanding," said a Wednesday statement. "Clearly, we missed the mark, and we apologize. We did not intend to make light of any serious issue. We are pulling the content and halting any further rollout. We also apologize for putting Kendall Jenner in this position."Well, hire some people of color and maybe you won't get into this mess again.
I didn't see anything wrong with the ad. Its promoting peace and showing the police aren't the enemy. Just using Kendall in it is helping promote the product
