5 Characters The Rock could be in the Next DC Comics Film

The Rock just announced that he will be teaming up with DC Comics for a feature film. Now, the question is, which character will he play?

I have some ideas after the jump

Never Forget: Brandon Teena

Brandon was killed 20 years ago today. His story is told in the movie, Boys Don't Cry.

Looking back at 2013

Well, this year is coming to a close. In 2013, I said this year's theme was Anything Can Happen and it did.

My partner and I ended our relationship, causing me question my actions and choices I made when it came to romance.

My job performance enhanced (a good thing) under new leadership, but I realized it was time to say good-bye. So, I decided 2013-2014 would be my final year in my role.

My blogging and Activism rewarded me well this year. I was invited to the LGBT Media Journalists Convening, Netroots Connect, and a speaker at the AFER DOMA event in Los Angeles. I also wrote for a couple of online magazines.

Dating has been interesting. Most guys are huge messes, but hopefully, the right one will come along.

I did more scriptwriting and re-applied to school.

My Graphic Novel is coming along and I can't want to get it done!!!!

I also got a new car this year too.

Made a decision to cut my hair, I thought it was time.

Bent-Con was a success. We are really growing.

Did a lot of self reflection, it's been helpful to understand just who the f*ck I am. More to come on that in 2014.

In all, it was a tough year, but I'm stronger for it. Hoping for more.

Aaron Schock does it Again

Aaron loves his fashion and this Twitter pic proves that he adores these pants

Picture it: Batman vs Superman '92

What if the Man of Steel/Superman vs Batman film actually came out in the 90s? What would the story be about? Which villains would be featured?

Well, since I have some time, I thought I would cast a 1992 version of this highly anticipated film.

So, check out my choices after the jump.

A Nativity Scene features a Bleeding Trayvon Martin

The Claremont United Methodist Church in Claremont, CA, has an interesting nativity scene. Their version has a bleeding Trayvon Martin where Jesus would be.

A black-hooded mannequin is bleeding in a pool that says “A Child is Born, a Son is Given.”

The artist John Zachary said this:
“My feeling about it is that we have so many guns in our country and there are so many killings and it’s unique to our children. And I think that people still need to talk about it in a reasonable manner until there’s something done about it."
He had the church's permission to display the scene, but some folks are not feeling this at all. Rev. Dr. Sharon Rhodes-Wickett said that some calls and emails have been really mean and one message condemned the church to Hell.

It's an interesting choice for a message. I might have to see this for myself.

Interesting Quote: Zeke Thomas

I came out in 2008, my sophomore year at college. My parents like to say they always knew I was gay. I came out to them, and they were very accepting. I always knew they would be accepting. Growing up, I had gay uncles, like every kid in America. I never was so scared that my parents were going to shun or disown me—the horror stories you hear. I was just nervous about, “Are my friends gonna accept me?” because I was a jock kid, so to speak, with an athlete father.

I did theater and was in the art scene, but there is a masculine connotation that comes with being an athlete’s kid. Still, I feel like those barriers of masculinity are constantly being broken down and redefined. People like to put labels on everything, and I feel stereotypes are stereotypes for a reason—most of them aren’t true. Even though I’m black and like chicken.

Question of the Day

What are y'all doing for New Year's Eve?

When Feminism Goes Wrong: Ani DiFranco's Plantation Empowerment Songwriter's Retreat

This is something that should be on a TV show.

Musician Ani DiFranco planned to have a songwriting Feminist gathering known as The Righteous Retreat in Louisiana. However, it was hosted at a plantation.

Several activists were bothered by this, expressing how it's insensitive and a bit problematic. When Black activists called it out, some folks tried to defend it, like Mandi Harrington. Miss Mandi tried to justify the retreat, but nobody was hearing it. She was reminded that the particular plantation wasn't not a happy place, a lot crap went down there.

However, several White feminists continued to defend the idea, but Mandi went to a dark place. She decided to create the ultimate defender of this mess... LaQueeta Jones. See below (via For Harriet):

Yep! This really happened. Mandi created this stereotypical person, even tried to add ebonics to the character. Once she was exposed, Twitter went off. Mandi quickly ran for cover and after a series of tweets and FB messages went viral, Ani finally responded and cancelled the event. She wrote an apology, but it was very passive aggressive. Read it, here .

I tell you, White feminists did not have a good year.

GMA Host Robin Roberts is very Grateful for Her Longtime Girlfriend

In a Facebook post, GMA Host Robin Roberts looks back at her life a year ago, and gives thanks to her longtime girlfriend, Amber.

Flashback 12/29/12....Hard to believe this was 1 year ago today..when I reached a critical milestone of 100 days post transplant...and KJ was finally allowed to come back home.

Reading this comforts me and I hope the same for you: "If you are depressed, you are living in the past. If you are anxious, you are living in the future. If you are at peace, you are living in the present."

At this moment I am at peace and filled with joy and gratitude.

I am grateful to God, my doctors and nurses for my restored good health.

I am grateful for my sister, Sally-Ann, for being my donor and giving me the gift of life.

I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together.

I am grateful for the many prayers and well wishes for my recovery. I return every one of them to you 100 fold.

On this last Sunday of 2013 I encourage you to reflect on what you are grateful for too.

Wishing you a Healthy and Happy New Year.

Peace, love, and blessings to all..XO

Remember John Amos in The Beastmaster?

Yes, Marc Singer was HOT in the fantasy classic, The Beastmaster.

But I want to take a moment to focus on John Amos. Many of you know him from Good Times, as James Evans, but in The Beastmaster... He was the HOT Warrior Daddy, Seth.

In Utah: Haters are willing to spend 2M to defend the Gay Marriage Ban

AG Sean Reyes

Since they can't accept defeat, haters in Utah will still try to fight Judge Robert Shelby's ruling striking down the state's gay marriage ban.

Even if it cost the state $2 million dollars.

The new AG Sean Reyes plans to hire outside counsel to fight the judge's ruling. He also wants additional attorneys to seek a stay from the U.S. Supreme Court. The state's GOP leadership has told Sean to do whatever it takes to make this happen.

These haters are relentless. To waste tax payers money over this is completely stupid. I mean, the ban was found unconstitutional, why are they trying to keep it going? Seriously, haters, have a seat.

Interesting Quote: Marc Lamont Hill

“They had to make some sort of gesture to make people happy and they did that with the suspension which essentially meant nothing. A&E decided that the 14 million viewers and millions and hundreds of millions of dollars that come with that is worth more than the LGBT community. That was the choice that they made. They were swayed by the market and unfortunately justice lost out this time.”

GLAAD's reaction to A&E's Caving

GLAAD releases a statement over A&E's foolishness:
"Phil Robertson should look African American and gay people in the eyes and hear about the hurtful impact of praising Jim Crow laws and comparing gay people to terrorists. If dialogue with Phil is not part of next steps then A+E has chosen profits over African American and gay people – especially its employees and viewers."

10 Tips for Bloggers

I've been doing this for a while and I think I got the knack on being a blogger. It's tough, there are so many of us, saying the same thing or posting similar things from the popular blogs.

While it can be daunting, it can be done and done well. So, I wanted to share some pieces of wisdom that has helped me over the years. Maybe they could help someone out there.

  1. Stay current and ahead with info. If you are posting current events, make sure they are current.
  2.  Find the best news blogs out there and stick with them. See if their style and subject matter match your own.
  3. Make sure your info is correct. We all stumble with this, but if possible, make sure your sources are 99.9% to 100% right all the time.
  4. And speaking of sources, always link them. Unless you're right there when the news happening, always provide a link to a source.
  5. Never pander, beg, or suck up to bigger named bloggers. It's foolish and sad. You can be a fan of other bloggers, but don't beg them to follow you or post your work. If you are good, your work will speak for itself.
  6. Mix it up, talk about different things. Surprise your readers.
  7. Challenge your readers to think differently. Sometimes a lot of bloggers will say the same thing or support the same point of view. That's fine, I just think it's healthy to challenge the popular view point. It's good to see things from different angles, and you know how bloggers can get stuck in the bubble. So, flip the script.
  8. Don't waste your blog bitching and moaning. We all have opinions and passion points, but if you spend your entire blog talking about how you were wronged, or betrayed... Folks won't care as much. Some folks do this way too much. In fact, it is a given (From these particular bloggers) that out of 8 posts, 6 of them are all about being wronged. Get over it and get over yourself... Maybe find a therapist too.
  9. Always remember why you are doing this. If you're trying to be famous or if you're trying to keep folks aware of the injustices in the world, always keep your eyes of the prize and go for it.
  10. Read other blogs and be supportive. I wouldn't be here if I haven't met some of you. So, make connections and make friends.

Interesting Quote: The Robertsons

“The family is excited to keep making a quality tv show for our dedicated fans, who have showed us wonderful support. We will continue to represent our faith and values in the most positive way through Duck Dynasty and our many projects that we are currently working on. The outpouring of support and prayer has encouraged and emboldened us greatly.”
A quality TV show? Child please.

A&E Caves and brings Phil Robertson back to Duck Dynasty

They caved.

Here's their statement:

As a global media content company, A+E Networks' core values are centered around creativity, inclusion and mutual respect. We believe it is a privilege for our brands to be invited into people’s home and we operate with a strong sense of integrity and deep commitment to these principals.

That is why we reacted so quickly and strongly to a recent interview with Phil Robertson. While Phil’s comments made in the interview reflect his personal views based on his own beliefs, and his own personal journey, he and his family have publicly stated they regret the “coarse language” he used and the mis-interpretation of his core beliefs based only on the article. He also made it clear he would “never incite or encourage hate.” We at A+E Networks expressed our disappointment with his statements in the article, and reiterate that they are not views we hold.

But Duck Dynasty is not a show about one man's views. It resonates with a large audience because it is a show about family… a family that America has come to love. As you might have seen in many episodes, they come together to reflect and pray for unity, tolerance and forgiveness. These are three values that we at A+E Networks also feel strongly about.
So after discussions with the Robertson family, as well as consulting with numerous advocacy groups, A&E has decided to resume filming Duck Dynasty later this spring with the entire Robertson family.

We will also use this moment to launch a national public service campaign (PSA) promoting unity, tolerance and acceptance among all people, a message that supports our core values as a company, and the values found in Duck Dynasty. These PSAs will air across our entire portfolio.

WATCH Gal Gadot's 1st Interview about being Wonder Woman

Gal shares on the Israeli TV show Good Evening with Gai Pines about getting role and how she will train for Wonder Woman.

Gal Gadot's first Wonder Woman interview... by BatmanNewsCom

Below is the translated interview
Where were you when you heard the news that you’d been cast as Wonder Woman?

I was just on my way to shooting at LA. I landed at NY in a connection flight when my agent, Hadass Lichtenstein, called me. She says to me “Wonder Woman!” and I’m like “What??” – “The role is yours!…and it’s a secret and the news are not yet announced and you can’t tell anyone…”. I’m saying to her “Are you serious??”- and we both scream! Now it’s a plane from Israel to NY and I can’t make loud noise, and so I lean on a window, bending down to my legs, and just try to understand. Long story short – I was totally alone in NY, I got to a hotel at 12 pm, I needed to wake up in the morning for shootings. I remember laying in the darkness by myself, staring at the ceiling, and I was telling myself “It’s not real!”…it shouldn’t be like that, I’m supposed to be like… “where’s the champagne?”.

It’s been said that you’re too skinny for the part. Wonder Woman is large-breasted, is that going to change?

Hmm. I represent the Wonder Women of the new world. Breasts… anyone can buy for 9,000 shekels and everything is fine. By the way, Wonder Woman is amazonian, and historically accurate amazonian women actually had only one breast. So, if I’d really go “by the book”…it’d be problematic.

So you’re not going to gain a little weight and start eating carbs before filming begins?

It’s the physical preparations that I’m starting now. A very serious training regime – Kung Fu, kickboxing, swords, jujutsu, Brazilian…1,000 and 1 things…I’ll gain body mass.

My Top Geeky Moments of 2013

There were geeky goodness this year, some good and some, well not-so-good. Still, there were plenty of things to talk about, so here are some of my big geeky things that happened this year.

Check them out after the jump.

Quick Lesson in 'What is Freedom of Speech and How it Works?'

This is very brief:

You have the right to say whatever you want. However, if you work for a company that has specific polices or function in at-will states, you can be fired for saying whatever.

That's how we function in the job world. All companies have their polices. The minute you sign on, you are excepted to follow their rules and regulations.

Interesting Quote: Ian Bayne

This guy is running for Congress, btw
“In December 1955, Rosa Parks took a stand against an unjust societal persecution of black people, and in December 2013, Robertson took a stand against persecution of Christians. What Parks did was courageous. What Mr. Robertson did was courageous too.”

Brian Brown whines about Ohio

"Though seemingly confined to how Ohio's death certificates treat so-called same-sex 'marriages' performed elsewhere, the ruling is utterly unlawful and violates the sovereignty of the people of Ohio. We call on the state to appeal the ruling of this activist judge. In the DOMA case, the US Supreme Court specifically ruled that it is the right of the states to define marriage. This activist judge is grossly twisting the Court's ruling in the DOMA case in order to justify a ruling that is completely at odds with the law. In the process, he has issued an open invitation for gay marriage activists to bring a wider lawsuit to redefine marriage entirely. This cannot be allowed to stand."

Interesting Quote: Phil Robertson

Sexual sins are numerous and many, I have a few myself. So what is your safest course of action? If you’re a man, find yourself a woman, marry them and keep your sex right there. You can have fun, but one thing is for sure, as long as you are both healthy in the first place, you are not going to catch some debilitating illness, there is safety there. Commonsense says we are not going to procreate the human race unless we have a man and a woman. From the beginning Jesus said, "It is a man and a woman." Adam was made and Eve was made for this reason. They left their fathers and mothers and united to become one flesh, that’s what marriage is all about. But we looked at it and said it was an outdated stereotype. When you look back at the human race, the sins have always been the same: We get high, we get drunk, we get laid, we steal and kill. Has this changed at all from the time God burnt up whole cities because their every thought was evil?’

Colorado State defensive line coach Greg Lupfer got caught calling Washington State quarterback Connor Halliday a fu*king faggot in the New Mexico Bowl.

Stay Denied, Gay Marriages continue in Utah

The haters tried to get a stay placed on Marriage Equality in Utah. Actually, they tried twice! But they lost... egg all in the faces.

U.S. District Judge Robert J. Shelby listened to state attorneys argue that gay marriages in Utah may be irreparably harmed if the judge's ruling was overturned, but after an hour, the judge was over it. He denied their request and the marriages continue to happen.

You can read the denial here and more of the story is here

In Ohio: A federal judge ordered Ohio authorities to recognize Gay Marriages on Death Certificates

Judge Timothy Black orders state officials in Ohio to recognize such gay unions on death certificates. Might seem like nothing for some, but it's a spark that could challenge the gay marriage ban in the state.
Judge Black said this key piece in his decision:
"once you get married lawfully in one state, another state cannot summarily take your marriage away."
He also said the U.S. Constitution recognizes the right to remain married as a fundamental liberty.

It's about to get serious in Ohio.

Interesting Quote: Jonathan Lalley, Assistant Press Secretary for National Security at the White House

“We are deeply concerned by the Ugandan Parliament’s passage of anti-homosexuality legislation. As Americans, we believe that people everywhere deserve to live in freedom and equality – and that no one should face violence or discrimination for who they are or who they love. We join those in Uganda and around the world who appeal for respect for the human rights of LGBT persons and of all persons.”

Frank Bruni on Wonder Woman's Movie Debut

NY Times' Frank Bruni wrote a great piece about Wonder Woman's appearance in the Batman vs Superman film.

The golden part for me was this:
But around the same time that I savored this happy turn, I read some less happy news: Wonder Woman was finally en route to the silver screen — but not, alas, in a vehicle of her own. She’s slated to be an appendix to Superman and Batman in a sequel to “Man of Steel.” For all I know she’ll be zipping out to Starbucks for their lattes or the dry cleaner’s to fetch their capes. Meantime, producers scrape the bottom of the superhero barrel for male demigods to put in the foreground and the title. Just last week Variety disclosed that Paul Rudd was in talks to play “Ant-Man.” Yes, “Ant-Man.” “The Green Hornet,” “Spider-Man” — maybe Wonder Woman isn’t insect enough for the major leagues. Maybe she needs to make like a mantis.
That was truth. Please read the rest.

Interesting Quote: Billie Jean King on Civil Disobedience in Sochi

Log Cabin Republicans wants to 'Raise a Glass' with Duck Dynasty Family

When you thought the Duck Dynasty mess couldn't get any crazier, the Log Cabin Republicans add their 2 cents.

The Executive Director Gregory T. Angelo released this statement on how to deal with this controversy:
“Let’s put an end to all of the fussing and feuding and talk about this like adults. Phil, you have your views and we have ours, but I think you’d be surprised how much we all have in common, and there’s no better gay folk out there to make that case than Log Cabin Republicans. We’re conservative, we’re guided by our faith, and we believe in freedom of speech. Most important, we are all children of God; that’s the most important thing we have in common. So in the spirit of the season, let’s get together — your family and ours — raise a glass, and work this out.”
Lord, these folks.

Fort Bragg chapel holds its first Gay Ceremony Ever

Maj. Daniel Toven and Johnathan Taylor got married at Fort Bragg today. The couple exchanged vows and were blessed while the family and friends watched.

Brian Brown whines about Utah

"This ruling is a travesty of justice. The voters of Utah made their will in this matter perfectly clear less than 10 years ago when adopting an amendment to the state constitution defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman. This ruling should concern every American who cares about the rights of citizens and their involvement in determining the laws that govern us. This trend of vetoing the voters from the bench must be stopped. We appreciate Attorney General Tarbet's swift action in seeking a stay of this decision and his commitment to appeal the ruling to the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. The rush to issue same-sex ‘marriage' licenses in Salt Lake County before the ink is even dry on Judge Shelby's decision is unseemly and an insult to the people. This is one of the most important issues facing the state and country. The constitution of the United States is not changed because a single judge says it should be. This critical matter needs to be considered by the higher courts immediately."

Bitch, bye.
