This hurts, y'all. Kelley Williams-Bolar was trying to give her daughters the best education to succeed in life. So she lied about where they lived to put them in the highly exclusive Copley-Fairlawn School District. But once the truth was revealed, Kelley was arrested.
She did this for her kids. When schools are failing our inner city youth and opportunities for success is passing them by, I understand why she did what she did. I support Kelley's efforts to provide for her kids.
Taking into consideration that what she did was "technically" illegal, the school districts missed a wonderful opportunity to shed light on issues dealing with inner-city kids and their lack of opportunities.
ReplyDeleteI grew up in a bullshit district that was overrun with drugs and gangs, and my parents did the same exact thing so that I can go to a better school.
I'm sitting here shocked . . .I was hoping the vid would be some type of satire, but this is actually happening? It hits close to home because ver since middle school, my mom wanted me to go to the best schools that offered great education. She even wrote letters to the Board of Education to make sure that there would be no issues with me going to schools out of my district. If this were to have happened to my mom, there'd be major problems!
ReplyDeleteAll Kelley wants is for her kids to be well educated and safe, but the school board wants to single her out, hire priveate investigators to follow her, and then order her to pay them back? Bullshit! All that energy can be put to better use by trying to improve the failing school districts that Kelley doesn't want her children to take part in? This is sad.
i read this today. Sad. My mother would have gone to jail for the same thing. I went to a school out of my distrist. For wanting the best for her children. I would have done the same thing.
ReplyDeleteThough what she did was wrong, she obviously had her heart in the right place and was trying to be the best parent she could and give her kids the best chance they could have. That is a rarity these days. Even worse is how much of the media and people within the field of education are handling this. Another huge miss for the education debate.
ReplyDeleteThis story is sad/ridiculous. She obviously wants the best for her children.
ReplyDeleteWhat about Rahm? He's allowed to run for mayor even though he didn't meet residency requirements last year... but the court ruled that he had "intent" to live there. Well this lady had intent to send her kids to a better school; same logic....
