The Dept.of Homeland Security ends the Ban on Green Cards for Gay Couples

Talk about fast.

The Department of Homeland Security has ended the green card ban on gay married couples. Secretary Janet Napolitano said:
After last week’s decision by the Supreme Court holding that Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) is unconstitutional, President Obama directed federal departments to ensure the decision and its implication for federal benefits for same-sex legally married couples are implemented swiftly and smoothly. To that end, effective immediately, I have directed U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to review immigration visa petitions filed on behalf of a same-sex spouse in the same manner as those filed on behalf of an opposite-sex spouse.
This is really moving fast and forward. So excited to see these walls come down.

Please read the FAQ, it will help you understand the whole process.

  2. Dang. They were almost quicker than the City of San Diego issuing same-sex marriage licenses.

I wish I were kidding. They just started issuing them yesterday after they "sought more direction from the state" on what to do after last week's ruling.

    1. Only if you are married, Damien. It only works if you and your partner are married.
