Like its been said " A lie told often becomes the truth". I just hate liars. This is really sad to stoop this low as to mix lies with the truth. Goddamn'em all.
Well, it is pretty odd that no one ever claimed to dispute the fact that PR shouted "The British are coming." to warn the colonists of their arrival. Plus, since he received a signal from the Church, lanterns shining light, not bells, it makes sense for him to shout what he needed to tell people rather than ringing a bell. If you weren't following what was happening (and I am sure there were some disconnected people back then, too, who don't follow the news, or keep up with politics and political struggles), you would certainly not understand what a ringing bell would even mean. So once, again, a verbal warning is the best way to achieve your goal, if letting people know that the British are coming is indeed that goal.
