Oooohh lord...does Marmaduke even show up in the newspapers anymore? I think this is definitely for the kids, but i doubt the kids have any familiarity with who he is. I never liked his strip, so even I know very little about him. But I guess it doesn't matter. Like I said, it's for the kids. And as for the actors and actresses it's for the paycheck. ;)
