A new CNN poll shows that soldiers who could careless about us, want DADT gone.
Out of the 69% that wants to repeal DADT, 48% of them believes homosexuality is morally wrong.
But what CNN's results do illustrate, in a nice side-by-side comparison, is that letting gays serve openly in the military is popular with some people who think homosexuality itself is wrong.Interesting, isn't it?
CNN asked respondents whether they "personally think that homosexual relationships between consenting adults is morally wrong, or not a moral issue"; 48% said it's wrong, and 50% said it's not a moral issue.
Since 69% of those respondents support letting gays serve openly, that means some of those people think both that homosexuality is wrong and that gays should be able to serve openly.

They don't like us but they don't have a problem if we want to go far, far away and die for them in the name of protecting the country.

ReplyDeleteAt the end of the day it seems like the poll shows most folks believe in different strokes for different folks. Therefore, they are willing to be tolerable as long as at the end of the day, can you get the job done.
ReplyDeleteGetting the job done is priority 1 for military folks. Trust I know. I come from a family where for three generations the men have enlisted and served.
BTW, when my brother was in the Marines, back in the 80s, he told me that he knew there were quite a few of closeted men serving. And, he really didn't care about it.
Well those numbers are not really that surprising. After all you may believe that person's behavior or beliefs are apprehensible, but still believe that behavior/act does not disqualify them from service.
ReplyDeleteThe way I read the poll is that while a substantial chunk of soldiers have an issue with homosexuality they believe they, the straight soldiers, can perform their duties without there being a problem. Which really is the question at the heart of the matter.
Very interesting, tolerant, and real.
