Interesting Quote(s): Barney Frank

On DOMA and DOJ's response
“I think the administration made a big mistake. The wording they used was inappropriate. I’ve been in touch with the White House and I’m hoping the president will make clear these were not his views.”

On the DNC Gay Fundraiser
“There are a lot of people who aren’t boycotting,” he said. “I think it’s a mistake to deny money to the DNC.”

  1. The DNC Boycott is one of those "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situations.

However, it appears to be effective.

MSNBC has been mentioning it throughout their broadcast this morning and I think Signorile is going to mention it when he appears this morning.

So I guess Mr. Frank is wrong.

  2. Well, he is a Democrat, and wants democrats to be elected. So I am not surprised that he would say that gays should still donate; however, if the "power of the purse" is the only way to get Congress moving then I say go ahead and do it.

The Democratic Party should not take for granted the support, through money, resources, and time, the Queer-Community have given them over the years so easily. Making it clear that it is not a blank check is about time.

  3. I often like to hear what Barney has to say, and I agree with him. I am not so sure the Democratic Party is who should be hit because thus far, I have yet to see change I can believe in.

So far, I have seen rhetoric worthy of the Bush Department of Justice, and little to no talk from the White House. Instead, there is a fairly worthless announcement this morning that offers little to LGBT other than a pat on the head. I gave money during the campaign. When a candidate does something beyond mentioning me in a campaign speech, perhaps I will believe again.
