Honestly, if anyone has ever actually READ the entire book, not just the Pentateuch or O.T., they can see that there is a dramatic transition from a petulant and petty God, to a sweetness and light entity.
It's pretty clear what went on. Hmm, can't attract followers with hell and damnation so lets try something else.
That's the reasoning behind it. The Bible isn't even a good story. It's barely coherent at its best. And for some really good psychotic stuff, read Revelations. Oh boy.
And Hollick is typical of all the fundamentalist Christians. The Bible is their only source.
