California Governor Jerry Brown bans Reparative Therapy for Minors
Cali-Cal's Governor Jerry Brown made some serious history this weekend. He signed legislation that banned reparative therapy in the state.
Here's more:
Authored by State Sen. Ted Lieu (D-Torrence), Senate Bill 1172 was co-sponsored by the National Center for Lesbian Rights, Equality California, Gaylesta, Courage Campaign, Lambda Legal, and Mental Health America of Northern California, and supported by dozens of organizations.California is, now, the first state that will not engage in this messy act of therapy. We're leading the way.
“Governor Brown today reaffirmed what medical and mental health organizations have made clear: Efforts to change minors’ sexual orientation are not therapy, they are the relics of prejudice and abuse that have inflicted untold harm on young lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Californians,” said Clarissa Filgioun, Equality California board president.

Interesting Quote: Rupert Everett
"Why do queens want to go and get married in churches? Obviously this crusty old pathetic, Anglican church – the most joke-ish church of all jokey churches – of course they don't want to have queens getting married. It's kind of understandable that they don't; they're crusty old calcified freaks. But why do we want to get married in churches? I don't understand that, myself, personally. I loathe heterosexual weddings; I would never go to a wedding in my life. I loathe the flowers, I loathe the fucking wedding dress, the little bridal tiara. It's grotesque. It's just hideous. The wedding cake, the party, the champagne, the inevitable divorce two years later. It's just a waste of time in the heterosexual world, and in the homosexual world I find it personally beyond tragic that we want to ape this institution that is so clearly a disaster."

NYC faces a Spike of Meningitis
The New York City’s health department ordered 10,000 doses of the meningitis vaccine due to the spike of Meningitis.

“Eight of the 12 cases were known to be infected with the human immunodeficiency virus,” read the health care provider alert. “Five reported using cocaine and/ or crystal methamphetamine. Four reported using Internet sites to meet men for sex. Three cases, however, were not known to be HIV-infected, did not report using drugs, and did not report using Internet sites to meet men for sex.”

New Survey: More folks like Bush than Romney
This sad man is not doing well at all. A new Bloomberg News survey shows that Romney's favorable rating is lower than Bush.
Bush's rating is at 46% and Romney rating is 43%. But that's not all, folks. While 49% found Bush unfavorable, 50% felt the same about Mittens.
Pretty much, Romney is the worst GOP candidate ever... And that's good.

“I was raised to be tough, to not take anything from anyone. It’s a lonely way to walk through this world. I spent my whole life trying to impress you, trying to please you. All it did was make me hate you, hate myself.
“And when I finally found someone that I thought I could love and love me back, it made me hurt them. Hurt them so they can never be unhurt. I tore that love apart, and myself apart with it.
“I have wanted to die because I could not be who I wanted to be. Because I could not be who you wanted me to be. But I couldn’t die, anymore than I could live. I’m tired of being here, in this place that feels like nowhere. I’m tired of caring what people think about me. I’m tired of being afraid.
“I’ve met someone that makes me want to breathe in this world again, and I would not hold my breath a second longer. None of these lies I told made me stronger. None of the secrets I kept made me happier. So I’m gonna try something else now. I’m gonna try telling the truth. My truth.

New Website counts the number of Anti-Gay Words used on Twitter
An interesting site, called NoHomophobes.com, delivered some sad and troubling news. Since the beginning of the year, anti-gay terms have been strongly used on Twitter. In fact, HuffPo reports that "so gay" was used in 800,000 tweets since July and "faggot" was used 2.4 million times.
Dr. Kristopher Wells, the Associate Director of University of Alberta’s Institute for Sexual Minority Studies and Services, said his team's agenda isn't to focus on individual tweets or Twitter users, but simply to demonstrate the "astonishing" frequency in which anti-gay language is used in everyday conversation.
"We make it very clear on our site that we are not in any way implying that the people who have tweeted these words were all intending to be homophobic," Wells told HuffPost Gay Voices in an email statement. "Words have the power to hurt, but they also have the power to heal. We want people to think before they speak and to always be mindful of the power of the language they use."If you want to check out the site, go here.
What's Missing from Gay Marriage Ads? GAY PEOPLE!
AP has taken a look at this interesting issue of no gay folks in pro-marriage ads.
The decision to keep gays in the background has been widely noticed in the gay community and debated on gay-oriented blogs, with some activists complaining that the move contradicts the central message of the gay rights movement for a number of years.
"If we don't show ourselves, people aren't going to get comfortable with who we are," said Wayne Besen, director of Vermont-based gay rights group "Truth Wins Out," one of many that presses gays to live openly with pride in who they are.
But others counsel deference for the complexities of public messaging, pointing out that the ads are designed to speak to the fears and values of the heterosexual majority, whose vote will decide the issue.
"The moderate tough guys we need to flip to win a couple of these races are still the ones who say that gays are gross," said Andy Szekeres, a Denver-based fundraising consultant who has worked on several state campaigns and had access to focus group data. "Pushing people to an uncomfortable place, it's something you can't do in a TV ad," said Szekeres, who is gay.

Cherokee Nation comes for Scott Brown over his Racist Campaign Actions
Days ago, Sen. Scott Brown debated Elizabeth Warren and attacked her over her race. He pretty much claimed that he could tell if she had any Native American blood in her.
It was a fail of sorts; many folks called him out on it. But then, this happened:
That was Brown's campaign staffers mocking Warren in a racist chant.
And then, this happened:
After that, the Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation Bill John Baker, had enough and wrote this:

“The conduct of these individuals goes far beyond what is appropriate and proper in political discourse. The use of stereotypical ‘war whoop chants’ and ‘tomahawk chops’ are offensive and downright racist.”Think Progress reports:
Baker called on Brown to “apologize for the offensive actions of his staff and their uneducated, unenlightened and racist portrayal of native peoples,” and said, “A campaign that would allow and condone such offensive and racist behavior must be called to task for their actions."
Warren’s Cherokee and Delaware Native American ancestry has been a frequent line of attack for Brown, with the campaign even running ads on the topic. The Senator did say Tuesday, however, that he did not “condone” their actions.Scott is being a frat boy about this. He needs to get this mess under control because this foolishness will become his legacy.

Paul Ryan's pet name for Romney is 'Stench'
This campaign is just fall apart like a pork butt from the bone. According to Politico, Paul has been running around calling Romney the Stench.
Though Ryan had already decided to distance himself from the floundering Romney campaign, he now feels totally uninhibited. Reportedly, he has been marching around his campaign bus, saying things like, “If Stench calls, take a message” and “Tell Stench I’m having finger sandwiches with Peggy Noonan and will text him later.”I think Paul realizes this is a mess he can't clean up. Since he joined Romney, his stock has gone down. He's like a pariah now and his career has just jumped into 'I'm screwed' mode.
I wonder if he is acting out because his political career is pretty much over.

DOMA or Prop 8 cases are not on the Supreme Court's List
The Supreme Court revealed their the first list of cases and guest what? DOMA nor Prop 8 was on the list.
Here a bit more from AFER’s Marriage Blog:
The Justices meet nearly every week to determine the cases they will take up. The next time we could hear something is Monday, October 1 at 9:30 a.m. EDT / 6:30 a.m. PDT, when the Court is expected to release a list of cases it is not hearing this Term.Also...
Some have speculated that the Supreme Court may wait to consider our case until later this fall when the Justices will decide whether to grant review in several cases challenging the so-called Defense of Marriage Act.
If the Supreme Court decides to hear our case, AFER’s legal team led by distinguished co-counsel Ted Olson and David Boies will urge to Court to affirm the fundamental right of all Americans to equally enjoy the freedom to marry the person they love.more to come, folks
If the Supreme Court decides not to hear our case, the landmark February 2012 decision of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals that struck down Prop. 8 will be made permanent, and marriage equality will return to California.
Interesting Quote: Cardinal George
“There must surely be ways in our civil society, where we can honor friendships, where we can respect other people, without destroying the nature of marriage. It is very important, for your whole lives, give witness to what marriage truly means. And while civil laws might change – if they do – then society will be the worse for it.”Basically, he's against gay marriage.

Ann Coulter said that Civil Rights are for Blacks only
The Whore of Skeletor was on This Week, talking about Civil Rights. In her world, she thinks Civil Rights are for Black folks only.
See here:
“The way liberals have treated blacks like children … have been harmful to blacks, at least they got the beneficiary group right … There is the legacy of slavery and Jim Crow laws. We don’t owe the homeless, we don’t owe feminists, we don’t owe women who are desires of having abortions or gays who want to get married to one another. That’s what civil rights have become for much of the left. They dropped the blacks after five minutes.”
Stephanopolis interrupted to ask whether or not immigrant rights were civil rights. Coulter insisted “No, I think civil rights are for blacks. What have we done to the immigrants? We owe black people something; we have a legacy of slavery. Immigrants haven’t even been in this country."She also thinks that Native Americans are from another country too. This woman... I can't with Ann today.

Mat Staver Crazy Ass Quotes about Obama's Gay Agenda
This man is crazy and claims that Obama will bring upon a Gay Wrath on America if he's re-elected.
Check out some of these quotes:
“President Obama has pushed the radical homosexual agenda down through all of his agencies. He has appointed particular people who make sure that every agency promotes the LGBT agenda. This action is a direct result of President Obama’s radical anti-family, pro-homosexual agenda.”And there's more, check it out here
“If Obama is elected, there won’t be any way to block it unless the House defunds the embassy. But it is not just the embassy that is involved; it is all the agencies in the Obama administration.”
“It is going to take some effort to make sure that the new administration is aware of these matters in order to address them. The problem is that Obama hasn’t been focusing on jobs or other matters of significance, but he has been driven by his ideological agenda.”

Black Clergy stand together for Marriage Equality in Maryland
In Maryland, Black clergy are standing on the right side of history and justice. They will support the Civil Marriage Protection Act.
From the Washington Blade:
“As pastors and clergy leaders, we are here today to declare our unequivocal support for Maryland’s Civil Marriage Protection Act and to dispel the myth that all African American pastors are fundamentally opposed to the idea of marriage equality,” said Rev. Delman Coates, senior pastor of the 8,000 member Mt. Ennon Baptist Church in Clinton, Md., during a press conference at the National Press Club in downtown Washington. “For too long the issue of equal treatment under the law for gay and lesbian couples has been mired in a theological debate between those on the one hand who oppose same-sex marriage based upon their religious beliefs, and those on the other who affirm it based upon theirs. And while this is a legitimate discussion for people of faith to have, the appropriate arena that conversation is the house of worship, the seminary, the Bible study or some other religious setting.”Finally, we are see the Black clergy do something right for a change. Mitt Romney releases 2011 Tax Returns
From the NYT
Mitt Romney paid $1.95 million in taxes on his 2011 investment income of $13.7 million, his campaign revealed on Friday, making good on Mr. Romney’s promise earlier this year to eventually release his full returns for that year.
Mr. Romney, who made millions by running Bain Capital, a private equity firm, paid an effective federal tax rate of 14.1 percent in taxes, primarily because most of his income was in the form of capital gains that are taxed at a lower rate than ordinary income. Mr. Romney has said that he has paid at least 13 percent in federal income taxes in each of the last 10 years.
In order for that claim to be true in 2011, Mr. Romney had to voluntarily take a smaller deduction than he was entitled to for his charitable deductions, his advisers said Friday.
Mr. Romney and his wife, Ann, donated about $4 million to charity in 2011, but claimed only $2.25 million as a deduction. The campaign said that Mr. Romney’s tax liability would have been far lower in 2011 had the Romneys claimed the full deduction for their charitable contributions.
“The Romneys thus limited their deduction of charitable contributions to conform to the governor’s statement in August, based upon the January estimate of income, that he paid at least 13 percent in income taxes in each of the last 10 years,” said R. Bradford Malt, Mr. Romney’s trustee.
It is possible, however, that Mr. Romney could still deduct the unclaimed amount of his charitable donations in future tax years, experts said.

Paris Hilton Apologizes for her 'Gay Men have AIDS' rant
She sends her apology via GLAAD
As anyone close to me knows, I always have been and always will be a huge supporter of the gay community. I am so sorry and so upset that I caused pain to my gay friends, fans and their families with the comments heard this morning. I was having this private conversation with a friend of mine who is gay and our conversation was in no way towards the entire gay community. It is the last thing that I would ever want to do and I cannot put into words how much I wish I could take back every word. But the damage has been done, boo.
HIV/AIDS can hurt anyone, gay and straight, men and women. It's something I take very seriously and should not have been thrown around in conversation.
Gay people are the strongest and most inspiring people I know. It is so wrong when people bully or put down others for being gay. No one should have to go through that. Again, I am so sorry from the bottom of my heart and I feel absolutely horrible. I hope that everyone can accept my apology and know that it is not who I am or how I feel in any way.
Thank you for taking a minute to read this, I love you.

New Study: Majority of Blacks thinks Being Gay is a Choice
In the report, called “Public Opinion and Discourse on the Intersection of LGBT Issues and Race,” we learn some more sad mess.
According to them, a majority of Black folks think being gay is a choice.
From Atlanta BlackStar:
Just 36 percent of the country believes that being gay is a choice, but the report found that 47 percent of Black Americans believe homosexuality to be a choice. More Latinos believed that people are born gay than the total sample, the report said, with 52 percent of Latinos believing people are born gay, compared with 42 percent overall.
Demonstrating the influence of religion on this issue, people who go to church weekly are far less likely to be pro-LGBT—24 percent of weekly church-goers support marriage equality compared with 57 percent of people who rarely or never attend worship services.Mess! See, this is why I do what I do.
Somebody has to be out and about in the Black community, telling the truth. And the first truth to tell is this: Being Gay is not a Choice.

President Obama's Official Statement on the Anniversary of the DADT Repeal
A year ago today, we upheld the fundamental American values of fairness and equality by finally and formally repealing ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.’ Gay and lesbian Americans now no longer need to hide who they love in order to serve the country they love. It is a testament to the professionalism of our men and women in uniform that this change was implemented in an orderly manner, preserving unit cohesion, recruitment, retention and military effectiveness. As Commander in Chief, I’ve seen that our national security has been strengthened because we are no longer denied the skills and talents of those patriotic Americans who happen to be gay or lesbian. The ability of service members to be open and honest about their families and the people they love honors the integrity of the individuals who serve, strengthens the institutions they serve, and is one of the many reasons why our military remains the finest in the world.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg: DOMA may go before the Supreme Court by Next Year
Ruth Bader Ginsburg tells folks at University of Colorado in Boulder that DOMA may be on the Supreme Court's docket next year.
HuffPo reports:
She was asked a student-submitted question about the equal-protection clause and whether the nation's high court would consider it applying to sexual orientation. If you don't know, DOMA's oral arguments are scheduled for Sept. 27.
Ginsburg said with a smile that she couldn't answer the question. She said she could not talk about matters that would come to the court, and that the Defense of Marriage Act would probably be up soon.
"I think it's most likely that we will have that issue before the court toward the end of the current term," she said.
