I was very lucky to attend 2 private screenings of new horror films. The first one was The Descent 2 and the other was Drag Me To Hell.
I will keep my reviews vague as always.
The Descent 2 is a wonderful continuation of the first bloodfest. When we left Sarah (the survivor), she just escaped the middle earth creatures. However, she has no memory of that horrid night in the underground caves. Once her friends are reported missing, a new search team heads out to find them. The sheriff forces Sarah to assist them in the search which leaves them all in the fight of their lives.
This movie was the bomb! I can’t tell you great this horror/action flick was. Watching Sarah grow into an amazon-like hero was perfect. The creatures were sublime and there’s a surprise after the first half of the film. SPOILER ALERT…Juno is Alive!
The fighting, killing and feeding scenes were stronger and fantastic! My only problem was the ending, but I was told it was a test screening and the ending may change.
The next film is Drag Me To Hell. It is a simple horror tale, really. Girl ( Christine Brown) gets cursed by a gypsy witch, girl tries to stop the curse and horror happens. But this is Sam Raimi we are talking about here. So we get more than horror in this movie. We get chills, laughs, loud demons screams and grossed-out fun.
Like the Evil Dead, there are great comedic moments with the gypsy witch, embalming fluid, kittens, flies and an anvil? Yes, an anvil.
Sam didn’t disappoint, in fact, it was refreshing to see a simple horror tale. It was like seeing a live action Creepy or Eerie comic. The characters made sense, there were no uber-cute folks playing these roles. They were people you would believe in or could identify with.
The only thing I wasn’t feeling was the fright moments with the loud ass “strike” pieces. I really hate those pieces in any movie, it makes it cheap and very SCI-FI channel movie-ish.
But in all, it was a great movie. So I highly recommend these movies when they actually come out.

His mother, Masika Bermudez, broke down crying 13 minutes into the press conference. Bermudez has insisted her son killed himself after being constantly bullied at Dunaire and that she had complained to school officials several times.
“My conclusion is there is no evidence of bullying at Dunaire,” said Moore, whom the school district brought in to oversee an internal review. “There is name-calling and teasing, but it is almost always done outside of any adult [being present]. There is a code of silence among the students.”
More than a dozen people showed up to hear the findings at the school district’s headquarters on North Decatur Road near Clarkston, and reaction was swift and harsh.
One man was forcibly removed from the building after he started shouting, “Shame!”
DeKalb County school police reported two arrests: former Atlanta City Councilman Derrick Boazman, and Abdullah Jihad, whose relationship to the family was not clear. The charges were not immediately disclosed.
A friend of Jaheem’s family, Monique McMiller, said four of her children attend Dunaire, including her son, whom she said was bullied in March 2008. McMiller said the principal was unresponsive and that the same kids then are causing problems now. McMiller said she was interviewed by Moore for the judge’s report, as was her son, who McMiller said broke down in tears during the session.
The judge’s conclusion “makes her [Moore] a liar,” McMiller said. “To come to a conclusion there’s no bullying, to drag that family underneath like that, is embarrassing.”
The day after Jaheem died, his mother wrote a note to his teacher, complaining about the constant bullying. Despite the note’s April 17 date, Bermudez insists her complaints started much earlier.
Jaheem’s teachers said they did not see or hear bullying or harassment directed at the child and that he appeared well-liked by classmates.

Unconfirmed reports around the Web are indicating that the California supreme court will announce its decision on Prop 8 on Thursday. One report says that barricades are being set up in the Castro neighborhood of San Francisco, with the local police department directed to make preparations. Another report says that similar measures are being taken in San Diego.
The high court has until June 3 to announce its decision on whether or not Prop 8 will be overturned. If the decision is going to be announced tomorrow, the court will notify the public today at 10 a.m. Pacific time.
